# Agent or curator

> What an assistant may change without you, depending on its role.

Page: https://docs.memex.tools/agents-and-curators

Every new connection is an **agent**. You can make one a **curator** to let it work without waiting for you.

| | Agent | Curator |
|---|---|---|
| New notes | Wait for you | Saved at once |
| Edits | Wait for you | Precise edits apply at once |
| Deletes and merges | Wait for you | Wait for you |

Every change a curator makes is in the [Activity log](https://docs.memex.tools/activity-log).

> **Always held**
>
> Changes to skills and to your profile always wait for you. So does every delete and merge, whoever proposes it.

## Next steps

- [Make a curator](https://docs.memex.tools/make-a-curator): Let one assistant save new notes and edits without waiting for your approval.
- [Run a maintenance pass](https://docs.memex.tools/maintenance-pass): Have your curator find and fix notes that need work, and how to repeat it on a schedule.

> **Tip:** Only you can give or take back the curator role, and only from a browser. No assistant can grant it to itself.
